The country's Ministry of Energy has approved the Forecast Electricity and
Capacity Balance of the Unified Electricity System of Kazakhstan (UES) until
2035. In order to cover prospective energy consumption in the UPS of
Kazakhstan by 2035, about 17.5 GW of new generating capacities are planned to
be commissioned based on various technologies and locations.
In this regard, KEGOC announces that it is starting to develop a forecast model
for the development of the national power grid. The large-scale modernisation of
the national power grid should be synchronised with the commissioning of new
generation capacity, ensuring the necessary interregional and inter-state power
flows.
The future configuration of the national power grid, using modern Smart Grid
technologies, should ensure the country's energy security by creating conditions
for the interconnection of Zone West networks with the UPS of Kazakhstan,
strengthening the networks in Zone South including the possibility of operating
separately from the integrated energy system of Central Asia if necessary,
largescale integration of renewable energy sources in western, eastern and
southern regions of the country, including the unique wind potential of Jungar
Gate and Shelek Corridor, through network and using energy storage
technology.
